Keynote: The Medicine of the Future is a Data Science
Hasso Plattner Institute - Hörsaal 2

Technological advances in clinical measurement devices based on sequencing, imaging, and wearable sensors promise to accurately diagnose diseases in their earliest stages when they can be readily treated. Data science lies at the core of this vision of personalized medicine, where each individual is monitored based on their medical history, as well as their own genetic and environmental disease risk. While today, medicine is still mainly centered around treating symptoms rather than personalized treatment of disease mechanisms, recent cohort studies that pair genetics with multi-modal phenotyping will serve as reference populations to assess the relative disease risk of an individual, as they provide detailed longitudinal recordings of occurrence and progression of disease in healthy individuals.

Leading Digital Transformation

How to include patients into care networks and the future role of patient data
Hasso Plattner Institute - Hörsaal 3

  • A patient-centric approach in healthcare truly puts the patient first while coping with a disease, being on a therapy or even whilst trying to prevent illness. Having this in mind, the most important goal of digital technology in the healthcare system should be to eventually support the patient on his journey. In this session we will present how digital information platforms can empower patients to meet other stakeholders, such as physicians, “at eye-level” and  how patients and their generated data through e.g. wearables, patches etc. can play a vital role in addressing today’s unmet medical needs.

Citizens´Involvement and Empowerment
Hasso Plattner Institute - Hörsaal 2

Why do we need more patient-centric health systems and where are the challenges in current structures? How can digital technologies foster more patient focus in health care? With our experts in integrated care, e-health and evidence, we want to look at three cases of supporting a patient focus in health: 1) investigating patient-empowerment in structurally underdeveloped areas, 2) patientempowerment for more adherence and compliance, and 3) thirdly the role of patient-empowerment in evidence-based medicine through patient-reported outcomes measures.

Asklepios is the second largest private hospital chain in Germany serving 3.2 million patients annually in over 150 health institutions. Over the last years several digital solutions have been successfully introduced at Asklepios including EHR, digital outpatient management, and telemedicine applications. This journey was companied by numerous communication measures and change procedures which will be critically reviewed. In addition, the potential of digital care to reduce costs, increase access, and improve outcomes especially for a hospital corporation will be addressed.
