Head R&D Policy and Networking
Matthias Gottwald is VP R&D Policy and Networking at Bayer AG since 2007, being responsible for the interaction with the political environment on R&D related issues, consortia management and publicly funded activities. He has a PhD in microbiology from University of Goettingen and worked since 1986 in several management positions in pharmaceutical R&D.
Since 2007 he is actively involved in the Innovative Medicines Initiative, also as member of the Executive Board of the IMI projects EUPATI and DO-IT.
Joining forces for Big Data in Healthcare – The IMI Big Data for Better Outcomes Initiative BD4BO
The evolution towards outcomes-focused and sustainable healthcare systems requires a close collaboration of all relevant stakeholders. The Big Data for Better Outcomes program within the Innovative Medicines Initiative offers a unique opportunity to jointly work on the harmonization of disease outcome definitions as a key for better decision making in healthcare. In several indication areas large pan-European consortia have been formed to make data from real-life and research available and to find novel ways of analyzing these heterogeneous patient data.
